Malaysian passport photo size: the official 35mm × 50mm
As long as your face is clear, we can turn your photo into a passport photo. A selfie at the mamak, in the car or in your room works too: we clean the background to white, fix the light and crop to the official size. For passport and government forms, we do not change your face. See the result first, free.
- You get
- A print-ready passport photo: 35mm x 50mm, white background, and a 4R sheet of 6 copies.
- You give
- 1 photo of your face. A selfie is fine.
- Made on
- This website, in about 2 minutes.
This photo needs a retake
These are for you to fix:
Cropping and the preview run inside your own browser. Your photo is not sent anywhere to crop, zoom or build the 4R sheet. It only leaves your device when needed: to clean the background (sent to fal.ai, our processor), to check your face and position (sent to Google), or when you choose “Send to my email” (through Resend, our email provider). We do not store that photo.
A selfie anywhere is fine. Only your face has to be clear.
A cluttered or coloured background, shadows, dim light, a crooked photo, a raised hand, uneven shoulders. The mamak, the car, your room: all fine.
Glasses, a cap, a smile showing teeth, closed eyes, a head turned to the side, a covered face, more than one person in the photo, a blurry photo or a face that is too small.
For passport and government forms, we do not change your face, so the second list is yours to fix. We tell you before you pay anything.
We clean the background to white, fix the light, straighten the photo and fit your face to the official size, head 25mm to 30mm. For passport and government forms, we do not change your face. Free, see it before you pay anything.
Here is your result.
It carries a watermark because it is not paid for yet.
The file you download will be clean, with no watermark, and sized correctly for your form.
If that button does nothing, press and hold on the photo above, then choose “Save to Photos” or “Download image”.
The 4R sheet is for taking to a photo shop or kiosk. It has cut lines and a 35mm ruler so you can check the print came out at the right size.
Uploading from a computer later? Email this photo to yourself.
This photo is sent as an attachment through Resend, our email provider. We do not store the photo. We keep your email address and the send details (first and last time, type of image) until you ask us to delete them. The send-limit records (maximum 5 emails a day, by email and by IP) are deleted within 24 hours, and server logs that contain IP addresses are kept for up to 30 days.
5 versions, all within specification
We worked out all five the moment you uploaded, we only showed you one. The only difference is how large the head sits in the frame, and every one stays inside the 50% to 60% range studios use.

One payment, everything you need
- The finished 35×50mm photo: no watermark, and the .jpg file size already set to your form's requirement
- White background: we remove your home wall, we do not change your face
- 5 crop versions: pick the head size you like
- Every background colour: white and blue, so the same photo covers other forms with nothing more to pay
- 4R sheet: 6 copies in one file: print it at a shop for about RM1 to RM2
- Sent straight to your email: so it is easy to upload from a computer later
To clean the background, your photo is sent to fal.ai (our processor), and the result is sent back to your browser. We do not store that photo.
For this form we do not change the background. That country prohibits photos edited with software, so we crop and resize only. Your photo must already have a white background.
Uses the credits in your account. An eligible new account gets 100 free credits, so the first download is free.
Compared with a shop: RM15 to RM25 a set, you have to travel, you have to queue, and changing the background means shooting it again. This is 100 credits, in about 2 minutes, from home. An eligible new account gets 100 free credits, so the first download is free.
Guarantee: rejected at the counter, or simply not happy? Email hello@rojak.app within 7 days and we refund your 100 credits in full. No reason needed.
One payment, every form.
Your background has been removed, so you can use the same photo for other forms with nothing more to pay. Pick one, the result comes out by itself.
You have 100 credits, roughly 1 videos
They came with the account you just made. Enough to make one 5-second video from your own photo (the free video is watermarked). It is fine if you never use them; they do not expire.

Face height 25mm to 30mm, crown 10mm from the top: these are the measurements studios and photo shops work to, and we frame to them, a face 25mm to 30mm tall, with the top of the head 10mm below the top edge. To be straight with you: on the Immigration site the 25mm to 30mm figure is listed under photos of children under 4 years old and Facial Live Capture at the counter; for an adult uploaded photo, Immigration publishes no face measurement at all. So we follow the studio measurements because that is the safest thing to do, but we will not tell you it is law.
Renewing your passport online? You have to upload the photo yourself
In the MyOnline Passportsystem there is a step called “Muatnaik Gambar” (Upload Photo): you submit your own photo as a softcopy. If the photo does not meet the specification, your application changes to the status “PERMOHONAN DITANGGUHKAN, FOTO TIDAK MEMUASKAN” (application deferred, photo unsatisfactory) and you have to upload again. That is a delay rather than a permanent rejection - but it holds up your passport.
If you go straight to an Immigration counter in Malaysia instead, your photo is taken there using Facial Live Capture and you do not need to bring one.
This 35mm x 50mm photo is also needed for job applications, university and school applications, government forms, and passport applications at a Malaysian embassy if you are abroad.
How to get a photo that passes
- Light. Stand facing a window during the day. Avoid a lamp directly overhead, because it casts shadows under the eyes.
- Background. Doesn't matter. Any wall will do and a shadow is fine, we strip it out and replace it with flat white.
- Clothing. Dark if you can. Our background is white, so a white top blurs into it at the edges.
- Camera. Ask someone else to take it from about a metre away. A selfie taken too close makes the nose look big and distorts the face.
- Face. Look straight at the camera, eyes open, mouth closed, no big smile. No glasses and no cap. For passport and government forms, we do not change your face, so these are for you to fix yourself.
Frequently asked questions
What size is a Malaysian passport photo?
35mm wide x 50mm tall, that is 3.5cm x 5.0cm, with a plain white background and no shadow. If you want to upload it to MyOnline Passport, the file must be a .jpg between 100KB and 300KB.
Do I need to bring a photo when applying for a passport at Immigration?
It depends how you apply. Renewing online through MyOnline Passport: yes, you upload the photo yourself. Applying in person at an Immigration counter in Malaysia: no, the photo is taken there with Facial Live Capture. Applying at a Malaysian embassy abroad: yes, bring your own photo.
What background colour does a passport photo need?
White, with no shadow. For a Malaysian passport do not use a blue or red background.
Can I wear glasses?
No. Glasses and contact lenses are not allowed. For passport and government forms we do not change your face, so if you wear glasses we will ask you to take a new photo.
How much does a passport photo cost?
A photo shop usually charges RM15 to RM25 for a set, and you have to travel there. With this tool you upload and see the result first, for free. If you like it, 100 credits gets you the 35mm × 50mm photo with no watermark, a white background, every background colour, and a 4R sheet with 6 copies. Eligible new accounts get 100 free credits, so your first download costs nothing. Printing the sheet at a shop is about RM1 to RM2.
Why does my preview have a watermark?
Because the preview is free and we want you to see the real result before paying. The file you download after paying has no watermark at all.
What if the result does not work out?
Email hello@rojak.app within 7 days and we refund your 100 credits in full. No reason needed. And if you have not spent any credits, you have lost nothing at all, the preview is free.
How do I resize a photo to passport size?
Upload your photo above. As long as your face is clear, the result appears by itself: the background turns white, the light is corrected and the photo is cropped to 35mm × 50mm. You can lay it out on a 4R sheet to print 6 copies at once.
Is my photo safe?
The crop and the preview run entirely inside your own browser, so your photo is not sent anywhere for that part. It only leaves your device when needed: to clean the background (sent to fal.ai), to check your face and position (sent to Google), or when you choose “Send to my email” (through Resend). We do not store that photo. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
How many copies should I print?
Most forms ask for 1 or 2 copies, but people usually print 6 at once because it costs about the same. The 4R sheet gives you 6.
